Additional Vision Correction Options
Additional treatments should have a clear clinical purpose. Ask why an option is proposed for your eyes, what evidence supports it and whether it changes your recovery or quotation.
Corneal cross-linking and “Xtra”
Cross-linking uses riboflavin and ultraviolet light to strengthen corneal tissue. In some settings it is discussed alongside refractive surgery. It does not make an otherwise unsuitable cornea automatically safe to operate on.
Ask whether the recommendation treats a diagnosed condition or is an adjunct to elective correction. Request an explanation of expected benefit, uncertainty and additional risks for your particular eye.
Autologous serum eye drops
These drops are prepared from the patient’s own blood and may be considered for selected ocular surface problems. They are not the same as ordinary lubricating drops.
Ask why they are needed, how they are prepared and stored, how long they can be used and what follow-up is required. Follow the supplied instructions; do not substitute a general online recipe or schedule.
Personalized laser planning
PersonalEYES uses optical measurements to guide laser planning. Ask how the proposed plan differs from other available options and how much of your concern is related to the cornea rather than another eye condition.
A useful way to compare an add-on
- What finding in my examination is this addressing?
- What changes if I do not have it?
- What is known about the benefit for someone with my findings?
- What extra risk, cost or follow-up does it add?
- Is the price included in the written quotation?
Your questions answered
Does “extra” treatment always improve safety?
No. The benefit depends on the indication and your examination. Ask the surgeon to explain the reason, evidence and trade-offs.
Should every patient use serum eye drops?
No. The need depends on the ocular surface assessment and the prescribed care plan.
Your consultation checklist
Ask why this option fits your examination, what alternatives are reasonable, what the quotation includes and how follow-up will work after you leave Korea.
