Eye Surgery Preparation and Aftercare
Plan your examination, contact lens break, transport and follow-up before treatment. Your surgeon’s written instructions take priority over a general timetable because care differs between procedures and patients.
Before your examination
Tell the team which contact lenses you wear and ask for the required lens-free interval. Soft, toric, rigid and Ortho-K lenses can require different preparation. Do not assume a single number of days applies to every patient.
Bring your glasses, available prescription history and a list of medications. Mention previous eye surgery, pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergies and relevant health conditions. Dilating drops can affect near vision and light sensitivity, so plan transport.
Before agreeing to surgery
- Know the procedure name and which eye or eyes will be treated.
- Understand reasonable alternatives, including no surgery.
- Ask about the risks that apply to your examination.
- Confirm the full cost and what follow-up includes.
- Have a contact route for urgent postoperative concerns.
Protect the eye during recovery
Use the prescribed drops as directed and attend the planned reviews. Avoid rubbing your eyes. Ask when you may resume driving, makeup, swimming, sport and other activities; these decisions depend on the operation and healing.
For surface laser surgery, follow the clinic’s instructions for the bandage lens. For an implanted lens, keep the recommended pressure checks and long-term monitoring. Do not stop prescribed medicines based only on information on this page.
When to obtain urgent help
Worsening vision, substantial or increasing pain, marked redness, new flashes or a sudden increase in floaters need prompt assessment. Contact the clinic or seek urgent local eye care. Do not wait for a routine website reply.
